Lucia di Lammermoor at the Festival Theatre

Okay... Mother has died. Grieving Lucia is forced, by brother facing financial ruin, to marry man she does not love. She loves her brother's enemy. He walks in to late to stop wedding. Throws a fit at her, curses her and goes off in a huff. She goes mad, kills the groom during the wedding night. The chorus sings 'what a terrible end to this happy day'!?! She then dies and her love commits suicide. The End.

Well, what do you expect from an opera?
